Bizarre. Perhaps you could add /var/log/syslog (and probably /var/log/syslog.0 too) to see if there are any general I/O problems on your machine?

Since it's been a very long time since any additional info was added to this bug, I'm just checking to see if this is still an issue, and find out what additional work should be done on this bug.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please try to obtain a backtrace following the instructions at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem.

My apologies for not keeping better track of this to all who have made an effort to resolve this.

I attempted to load/build all the debugging work to perform the backtrace as requested by Jonathan Thomas. I managed to get everything loaded (I thought), but I am getting a message in gdb that states 'No debugging symbols found'.

I have since upgraded to 8.10 (Intrepid) and am uncertain that the backtrace would be useful, but I am still willing to attempt this if I can get any assistance in getting the debugging symbols installed.

Thanks again.
