Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.04 LTS supports Office Open XML MIME types by default, however, there are no symbolic links in /usr/share/icons/gnome for those MIME types. Thus, the docx, pptx and xlsx files look like executables. I hope it will be fixed in the next Ubuntu release.

I can confirm it is still the case in Intrepid. Symbolic links like /usr/share/icons/$THEME/$SIZE/mimetypes/gnome-mime-application-vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document.png are missing.

I guess simple substitutions in /usr/share/mime/generic-icons could do the trick:
application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document:x-office-document

Actually this can be solved by using generic icons for the involved types. This is in shared-mime-info; I've just sent a patch upstream to correct this.

This is fixed upstream in icon-naming-utils 0.8.90.

Thanks! Let's keep this report open since a more general fix should come from shared-mime-info too.

The shared-mime-info package includes the MIME types for the links I've
added to icon-naming-utils. The version in Intrepid does anyway. But I
suspect the bug should stay open until the new icon-naming-utils is
packaged, and the icon theme packages are rebuilt against the new
version.
