Bug Description
Binary package hint: rhythmbox
[I know this is a known issue but the maintainer acts like it is a feature request. This is one of the most obvious problems with Linux development! The maintainer has no usability focus and his personal preference ruins the experience for potential converts. Please have an "evangelist" look at this before it is closed.]
RIDICULOUS!!!
Every other application that resides in the system tray (or whatever it is called in Ubuntu) minimizes to that tray when the "X" in the upper right of the application window is clicked. Only Rythmbox actually quits when I click that button.
This has been a problem for years and while Rythmbox has gotten much better, this has not been addressed.
WILL SOMEONE PLEASE WAKE UP OVER THERE AND FIX THIS???
EVEN DEVELOPERS HAVE FIGURED THIS BUG OUT LONG AGO.

I agree with the orig. reporter that it is a usability issue which needs to be addressed. Most people want the media players to be minimized to the notification area while playing and in almost all players this is done by pressing the close 'X' button on the window title bar.
In Rhythmbox, though it can be minimized to the notification area by clicking the icon while it is playing the media, the player closes out if the X button is closed. This is in contradiction to what most other players do and users will be expecting the minimize behavior to happen rather than the close behavior. It would be great if the right behavior is implemented in Rhythmbox as well.
