firefox toolbar icons disappeared

Before you say anything - I have not messed with them, they are not turned off, and I have not customised the toolbars at all :-)

Clean install of 8.04 - Clean install of firefox, new firefox profile,

IMPORT of old bookmarks.json

On first load: The icons for back, forward, refresh, home, stop are all visible, the folder icons for folders in the bookmarks toolbar are all visible.

Close firefox, then reopen, the icons are all gone. The icons for back, forward, refresh, home, stop are NOT visible, the folder icons for folders in the bookmarks toolbar are all visible.

I seem to be able to replicate this time and time again. sometimes the icons load - especially (100%) after installing a new extension and restarting firefox, but most of the time the icons are missing...

This happens here with many extension icons (Adblock Plus, Video Download Helper etc.). The "Custome Toolbar" dialog sometimes shows the missing icons so I can add them but after a firefox restart they are gone again. If I use the "restore default set" button in the dialog, all additional icons introduced by extensions are gone from the toolbars and the dialog!

Workaround: Things seem to be stored in localstore.rdf in the firefox profile. The file has grown to over 40kb, so I removed the file (backup before!) and started firefox again, customized the toolbar and after restart all icons are still there.
