Selection in Konqueror is extremely slow

Bug Description

I'm using Breezy with a 1280x1024 screen. When I make a big selection in
Konqueror (for example, select the entire window) it becomes unresponsive. I
think it's because of the fake transparency that's includen in that version of
Konqueror.
I don't know why does it happen in Konqueror because using the same big
selection in KPDF, that uses the same fake transparency, it does not become
unresponsive.

I tried KDE 3.5 beta1 for breezy and it's still the same. When making a big selection it drops performance.

This is due to the rubber band patch, I need to see how other distributions handle the issue.

I tried to reproduce this in kde 3.5.2 and saw no performance degredation while manually selecting all the text on a long slashdot article with several hundred comments. Is this still reproducible?

The problem is not with Konqueror as a web browser, but as a file manager. It's slow when it draws the semi-transparent square that selects files.
Anyway, I tried with Konqueror 3.5.2 (and XGL, I don't know if that matters) and it's faster than before, now it's as fast as it's on nautilus, but still not as fast as Windows XP.

Just to let you know that this problem still exists running konqueror 3.5.6 on kubuntu feisty. It doesn't matter how many files/folders you select, but how big the surface is you "select".
It happens on my own desktop pc and my girlfriends laptop.
