Bug Description

With the latest version of 2.6.12-8-386, I get a kernel panic immediately on
startup (before bootsplash).

The error message is approximately:

Syntax error: 0x

and then something about killing init.

This is on a Thinkpad T43.

Previous versions of 2.6.12-8 worked, as does 2.6.12-7.
