Bug Description

Hi,

http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511/ says that there is a 1.65 version
of the driver available.

It also says that there is a 2.32 experimental version available.
This is the version shipped in the ov511 package.

Would you be willing to update to the experimental version? If so
would you like to see the ov511 package removed?

Thanks,

James

Hi James,

Sorry for the extremely delayed response here. Is there a specific reason for wanting to update the driver? It looks like the version in Hardy, Intrepid, and in the upstream kernel is still at version 1.64. It's likely I can get the kernel team to take a look at getting this updated for Intrepid but it's unlikely this will qualify for a Stable Release Update for Hardy assuming it doesn't fall under - http://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates .

Also note that beginning with the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 development cycle the linux-ubuntu-modules package was actually merged with the linux kernel package. Going forward, bugs that would have been reported against linux-ubuntu-modules should now just be reported against linux. I'll go ahead and open the 'linux' task. I'm tentatively marking this "Won't Fix" for Hardy though.

Changed in linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24:
status: New → Won't Fix
Changed in linux:

importance: Undecided → Medium

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Hi Leann,

I'm not interested in an update for hardy, this was just a notification
that there is a new version available, and the team may want to
pull the latest and greatest for Intrepid.

Thanks,

James

Thanks James. I'll have them take a look to consider.

Also, sorry for the increased spam you may be seeing with our call for testing the 2.6.27 kernel. We're just trying to get as much visibility and feedback in the small window of time we have to determine if we'll stick with 2.6.27. Thanks again.

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.

Hi James,

Thanks for your remind. However, the ov511 project you mentioned seems to be outdated (their stable/experimental version targets a v2.2/v2.4 and very early v2.6 kernel only). And there is already ov511 support in latest kernel. Please test latest ubuntu jaunty release. I'm going to close this at the moment.
