Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnat-gps

When updating from7.10 to 8.04 i got the following message:

The upgrade aborts now. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a). Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport. installArchives() failed

I am (i hate to admit) a complete newbie

wont even let me put any updates on via update manager either.

Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

Thanks for the logs.

This looks like a corrupted /var/lib/dpkg/avaialble file. Could you please rename that file and try the upgrade again? It might be file system corruption.
