Bug Description

Firefox 3 (default install) is unable to be un-installed (cant drag & drop favicon.ico to create shortcut to web page) so firefox 2 installed. System preference "web browser default" does not list Firefox 2 so "custom" setting set to point to firefox 2 launch details. (copy & paste from firefox 2 details) i.e. firefox -2 %u (?) set in custom but shortcuts created from drag & drop in FF 2 are still opened by firefox 3. Unable to remove FF3 it dominates priorities throughout the system and given existing problems with FF3 I thing removal should be allowed through add/remove packages once FF2 is installed.

8.04rc 32bit

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a duplicate of bug 17081, so it is being marked as such.

Regarding your other issues: Drag&Drop works for me in Firefox 3 (either with the favicon or using the tab). You can uninstall firefox using the synaptic package manager (system adminstration menu).

According to the bug the problem is the system not using the command you've set to open webpages from links (e.g. in Nautilus or Thunderbird).

What is the exact line you're putting into the command section when choosing custom? Are you specifying the correct path to firefox 2?

Scratch that. As Marcel wrote this is a duplicate of bug 17081. If you want to address the issue of not being to uninstall firefox 3 from the Add/Remove dialog you should open another bug.
