Bug Description

"Comment" field in ID3 tags is widely used to add some important information relative to the track or album. The comment field is commonly used to note special release albums, if it's a reissue or remastered version for example. Other usage is to simply note the version of FLAC and encoding rate. There are many other use cases which make this field important.
Currently there is no option to add the comment filed as column in the playlist view. The comment field doesn't also appear in the information tab, it's available only on "Edit Information".
It will be great if the user can add this column as any other. It's no harm for users that doesn't need/use it.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Totally agreed! This is the missing feature that makes me use Amarok instead of Exaile. It stores my ratings, format, mood, reference numbers etc. It's the most powerful tag for making *smart* playlists and organizing big collections.

Same for me. This is one important feature, i am missing in Exaile.
I store custom rating, style and mood information in the comment tag, needed for dynamic playlists.

Can somebody tell me if this is supposed to be implemented yet? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha and the version of Exaile in the repository doesn't appear to have the Comment tag yet. This is a must-have for me, if I'm EVER to migrate from Amarok 1.4.

raffraffraff - the bug hasn't been marked fixed yet, so no, it doesn't.

First suggested in March 2008. Now it's September 2010. And it's still "unassigned". I've completely given up on this feature ever making it into Exaile, and therefore I have completely given up on Exaile. But by extension, I have to give up on a bunch of other players too. So before I leave, never to return, I would dearly love for somebody to properly answer this question:

"WHY was it not implemented from the start?"

When I used Windows (many years ago) pretty much every player supported this tag: Winamp, Foobar2000, iTunes, Media Monkey. Even those rubbish players you get with your Creative Labs MP3 player. And then I migrated to Linux and it's as if the damn tag doesn't exist. Amarok uses it, but the decent version of Amarok 'is no more'. Clementing (its apparent clone) doesn't support it. Neither does Exaile (its 'other' apparent clone). Or Rhythmbox. Or Banshee... I actually compile Amarok 1.4.10 on Lucid so that I can use them.

WHY? Is there some 'comment tag' conspiracy that I don't know of? Did it murder someone? Did it vote Republican? Did it kick a dog? Was it responsible for the BP oil spill? Gulf war? Famine in Ethopia during the '80s? WHY?

Fixed with r4150 (ID3 read/write, other formats need to be checked/implemented), r4151 (list/edit in the properties dialog) and r4152 (playlist column).

Thanks for the patience.
