Bug Description

I can´t install Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy on my Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H with the SATA controller (chipset SB700) in AHCI mode, the Install CD boots and makes the installation but after first reboot GRUB fails with error 18, when I try with native IDE mode Ubuntu installs with no problems.

Greetings

Alex

I'm also experiencing this issue. It's still present in Intrepid and I have this particular motherboard also.

Cameron: Intrepid was in alpha/beta phase back then. Have you tried to install the final version of Intrepid?

I have same issue on my PC whose motherboard is GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H.
The southbridge I have is exactly the SB700.
I CAN successfully use the Ubuntu 9.10 live CD and install but
I CAN NOT boot into system after the reset.
It is fixed by switch the SATA mode from AHCI to Native IDE.
So I think this bug is still exist in the GRUB>
