knetworkmanager stops kmail from getting email on dialup

There may be a bug with Knetworkmanager and the usage of dialup / usb option icon 225 modem

I could not collect my internet email through Kmail but I could collect local mail. Connection to the internet was done via the usb Icon 225 modem, so Knetworkmanager was inactive.

Once Knetworkmanager was shut down, the connection for Kmail then became possible and email flooded in.

I discovered this due to this thread how to solve the situation

Where there are others where the problem has been resolved by closing Knetworkmanager.

I am using Hardy Heron with the latest updates. The other users from the thread appear to be using Gutsy Gibbon.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?
