Content of email is blank

Binary package hint: thunderbird

It happens sometimes, when I come back to thunderbird (2.0.0.12 20080227), any email I click appears blank. Nothing is displayed in the reading pane below.
I did try to reproduce the problem without success.

When I display the headers and then minimize the headers, the message displays, but if I select another email in the same folder, the content of the previous selected email is still displayed.
If I display the headers on the new selected message, same again, I've got the good message, and it stucks until I open the headers for another email and so on.
If I change folder, then it comes back to blank emails.

When I close and open thunderbird, it's working again.
I have 3 pop accounts and 1 imap account.

Just before I was working in inkscape with network files.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem:
After searching for a message, you click on the selected message
and appears blank, any mail you select after that appears blank.

Yes, unfortunately I see the same problem even with version 2.0.0.19 (20090105)

Opening a new message results in a blank page. I have minimized the header by default, so after I've clicked the "+" mark and then "-" left to the "Subject: ", the message is drawn correctly. Even more, the last time it happened, I after gotting the message to be displayed selected a large amount of text and tried to drag it. This caused to disappear first lines (approximately 10) from the message's top.

Still, probably this behaviour could be related to the OS, not the Thunderbird itself. This problem appeared some days ago and now it happens very often. I hadn't updated Thunderbird, nor any addons. However, OS is changed almost every day - getting some updates installed, new programs, etc.

OS: Ubuntu 8.10

Also please let us know if thiws happens in IMAP only or if you see it in POP. I am unable to reproduce with IMAP nor POP at this time i tried IMAP on pop and IMAP also tested thnderbird-3 and thunderbird-2.0
I have no extensions in thunderbird except enigmail

I have only POP mailboxes.
The only extension shown in Tools->Add-ons->Extensions tab is the mentioned "Remove Duplicate Messages", version 0.1.06, from Mozilla addons site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/956

I couldn't produce the problem right now either, as it sometimes happens and sometimes not. I used the Help->Report a bug.. option in thunderbird hoping it will give some more information, altough probably it's useless if nothing wrong happened. Anyway, it can be found here https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/336144

Forgot to mention in previous post - the last time this error was produced, I checked out the "Error console" - but it was clear. No warnings, no errors, no even messages.

OK, correction - although I didn't encounter this problem, suddenly there appeared 4 identical warnings in Error Console.

Can you reproduce this with a clean profile? command as follows:
mv .mozilla-thunderbird .mozilla-thunderbird.old
than restart thunderbird and add one email address and see if the issue
goes away.

Whenever I open Thunderbird, several messages in my Inbox render as blank emails - similar in all aspects to Martins K's comments:

The problem remains whether the preview pane is used - or if the message is opened in a separate window. Choosing to view the message in text/original HTML/simple HTML does not help. However, replying to the message draws the original message correct (as quotes) - as does clicking the "-" / "+" marks next to the "Subject:" (as per Martins' post). Unfortunately, the problem remains even when Thunderbird is restarted. Thunderbird worked without issue for several days prior to the issue's appearance.

Update: I noticed that even though I had clicked each add-on's "Disable" button and restarted Thunderbird, the Lightning add-on remained active. After again disabling all add-ons and rebooting (when in doubt, reboot), Thunderbird now appears to behave normally. Go figure.

This problem happens to appear and disappear without any obvious reason. I don't believe it has anything to do with the Lightning add-on, I have encountered this bug several times despite the fact I have never had this particular add-on. This problem happened some more times but disappeared itself soon, so I didn't pay attention anymore.

In case it starts bothering you again, you might want to consider upgrading to Thunderbird 3. I've been using it together with Ubuntu 9.10 for some time and have not encountered this problem anymore...
