Bug Description

Binary package hint: adept-manager

I'm trying to install the Kubuntu 8.04 release candidate from 7.10 by following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades/Kubuntu
Running kdesu "adept_manager --dist-upgrade-proposed" launches the Adept manager, after appearing to download a file, but no "Version Upgrade" button appears.

Looking at /etc/apt/sources.list, it's clear that this hasn't changed - presumably it was supposed to have the new source added so I assume this is where the failure is occurring.

For reference, output from running the command follows:
$ kdesu "adept_manager --dist-upgrade-proposed"
kbuildsycoca running...

I've had this on 2 computers. On the computer I wanted to upgrade to 8.04, I had to follow the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades:

Press Alt+F2 and type sudo do-release-upgrade -d

This then allowed me to do an upgrade through Adept.

The suggested do-release-upgrade -d did a complete upgrade, but after it, I was left with a completely broken system, with the kernel unable to see any of my partitions and every filesystem superblock corrupted. I don't know if this is because of the upgrade method or some other problem: bug 213884 refers (I'm not the only person with this problem.)

Same here. We have this problem on 2 computers. We are using apt-proxy as our repository in /etc/apt/sources.list.

I don't think this should be a problem with Adept 3.0 in Intrepid. If this happens with Adept 3.0 when Kubuntu 9.04 rolls around, it would likely be a different issue anyway.
