Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-16-generic

I'm the proud and lazy owner of an Acer 9920 laptop which has an iwl4965 wireless chipset. The Acer appearently always boots with the kill switch "on", i.e. I need to toggle it first after a boot before WIFI would work. And if I use the stock modules which have version 1.2.0 of the iwl4965 driver toggling this switch will work properly: Network Manager will pickup the change and I'll get connected properly.

That version of the driver however stops working after a while due to bug 200509, so I took the advice there and used the newer module package which has version 1.2.25 of the iwl4965 driver.

This driver version however is not able to pick up the killswitch change. When the laptop boots the log states that the kill switch is enabled (which it is), but toggling it on the keyboard does not switch networking on. The only way to do that is to toggle the switch once after boot, followed by a rmmod and modprobe of the iwl4965 driver. And being lazy this is of course a problem ;-)

The BIOS does not have an option to enable WIFI by default, so every boot I have to sudo and do the modprobe dance.

I will attach a dmesg log for the boot.
This occurs on Hardy, up-to-date till today.
