Bug Description

X-server fails to start after upgrade from hoary to breezy using kernel 2.6.12-8.
Using kernel 2.6.10-5 the xserver starts and works fine.
Probably there is a problem with the kernel because my microsoft mouse is
initialised while booting kernel 2.6.12-5 and not by start of the hotplug
services.

Can you send the dmesg output from both hoary and breezy kernels, and also /var/log/Xorg.0.log from the failed
X startup?

Have you tried loading the mouse kernel module manually?

Well, the kernel sees the mouse, so it's just that no device file is being created. I'm going to shoot this
over to udev.
