Bug Description
During installation under both Hoary and the latest Breezy DVDs, I get an error
if I try to add a user name with a hyphen in it (e.g. "eric-n"). It allows me to
enter the user's "Real name", the user name and the password, but after entering
the password and attempting to move to the next stage of installation, I get an
error name stating that the user name I entered is invalid. My workaround for now
is to rename the user after installation, but this is a pain. Surely the installer
should be able to handle hyphenated user names.

Yes, I agree. This syncs passwd.config's idea of valid usernames with adduser's:
shadow (1:4.0.3-37ubuntu3) breezy; urgency=low
* Allow usernames containing hyphens (closes: Ubuntu #15721).
