Bug Description

I installed the beta version of ubuntu Hardy last 3 weeks. It was working properly. The printer was OK.
Last week, the printer became not detected.

The Web page of cups says :
"Canon_MP360 "Unable to open device "hal:///org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_263c_C00NCL_if0_printer_noserial": Permission denied"

Just for information :
The lpinfo -v on gusty shows :

laurent@usky-3:~$ lpinfo -v
network socket
network beh
direct hal:///org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_263c_C00NCL_if0_printer_noserial
direct usb://Canon/MP360%20Series
direct hpfax
direct hp
network http
network ipp
network lpd
direct parallel:/dev/lp0
file cups-pdf:/
direct scsi
network smb

On Hardy, it is now the same but without the line direct "usb://Canon/MP360%20Series"

I found the reason of the problem but the solution is not a good one !

Just explain, The printer is a canon MP360 multifunction (it is also a scanner). The scanner is not correctly configured by Ubuntu. there was a specific procedure to active the scanner on Gusty. It was working well.

The problem in this procedure in Hardy is that the creation of the file /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libsane.rules with the following lines :

# Canon Smartbase MP360
SYSFS{idVendor}=="04a9", SYSFS{idProduct}=="263c", MODE="664", GROUP="scanner"

delete the direct usb://Canon/MP360%20Series port from the printer devices.

So I have the choice between the scan and the printer, I cannot activate both !

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?
