Bug Description
When I press shutdownbutton in hardy, the shutdown dialog does not show. I think it is there but invisible since I can press ESC and continue working..

I have the same issue. Hitting 'esc' gets you out of it.
I experienced this using Hardy 8.0.4 with Compiz enabled. nVidia GeForce Go 7600 with nVidia driver version 169.12. The problem does not occur if I disable compiz.
To the original poster - I suggest you add some more details of your setup and whether or not you are running compiz.
