Bug Description
Binary package hint: pidgin
I just received this crash for the first time when trying to join a new IRC chat via the "/join #channel" command. It crashed before the new message window ever appeared.

I'd also like to note that this happened for the second time, so it's seemingly reproducible. The steps I take are:
1) Launch pidgin from the Ubuntu menu. This auto-connects to an AIM account, and IRC on irc.freenode.net. Also, a window pops up with the message "freenode-connect: Received CTCP 'VERSION' (to scottwegner) from freenode-connect"
2) In the freenode-connect IRC window, type the command "/join #ubuntu" to join a chat.
3) Pidgin crashes with apport bug.
