Bug Description

I reproduced this bug multiple times on two computers (ATI/nvidia) and it is caused by the little Bullets and Numbering toolbox in OpenOffice.

Steps to reproduce :
1. Have compiz enabled with default "normal" or "extra" settings (animations plugin must be enabled).
2. Open the attached OpenOffice document and click on the text, the Bullets and Numbering toolbox should appear.
3. Open a Firefox window.
4. Try to switch multiple times between OpenOffice and Firefox window.

Result : Graphical interface is now freeze and compiz is eating all the CPU. It's still possible to open tty6 with Alt+SysRec+R and Ctrl+Alt+F6, compiz and X does not seem to crash, I can't get any backtraces. OpenOffice exit normally when the bug appears without any trace.

When reproduced with metacity, nothing freeze, but the Firefox window needs to be clicked twice before it opens up (it seems to minimize instead to show).

Graphic cards on which I reproduced this bug :
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc M22 [Mobility Radeon X300] [1002:5460]
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82865G Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2572] (rev 02)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation GeForce 8300 GS [10de:0423] (rev a1)

Compiz : 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu5
OpenOffice.org : 1:2.4.0-3ubuntu4

changed the description, setting back the package from xorg to openoffice.org and added compiz since this bug does not seem to have any effects on X itself, but rather to freeze compiz because of the openoffice toolbox that does not seem to be handle properly when switching between windows.

I can confirm this, I have the exact same behaviour - though I didn't realize until now that it was when I have a toolbox open.

Ubuntu 8.04 updated as yesterday, Wubi version. Can't try it anymore though, because this last lock resulted in my installation going unrecoverably south.

Can you see if disabling the animation plugin in compiz makes this go away? Install compizconfig-settings-manager and run System->Preferences->Advanced Desktop Effects Settings and uncheck the Animations plugin in there.

Travis Watkins : I confirm the bug cannot be reproduced when the animations plugin is disabled. It only happens when animations is enabled.

In that case this is a dupe of another known bug (that I can't seem to find) and I think the fix is already in hardy-proposed. Can you see if installing all compiz-related packages from hardy-proposed helps?

I confirm, the fix in hardy-proposed fixes this bug, I can't reproduce it anymore and I can't find the duplicate bug too.. Setting to fix committed

Wouldn't that be a duplicate of bug #220631?
