gdm Interface does not return when second user logs out.

Binary package hint: gdm

The following scenario is repeatable.

System boots to gdm welcome screen
Log in as user "jeff"
Login is successful. Select "switch user"
gdm welcome screen appears
log in as user "sandy"
Login is successful. Select "log out"
Session logs out, plain white screen appears. No access to welcome screen or other running session.
Only way to regain control (that I have found) is to restart X (ctrl-alt-bkspce)

Hardy 8.04 all updates installed as of 20:21 GMT 16-April.

Login is successful. Select "log out"
Session logs out, Blank Screen - Dead in the water. Nothing works any more.
Restart system. Goto line 1 and repeat forever.

Only error I could find just before holding power button in until stop/halt. Also this same error shows before each of the halts.

This is actually caused by when the screen "locks" from your user that you were switching from.
