Bug Description

Binary package hint: konversation

I'm running presently on Hardy, and since Monday, konversation decides to eat up an insance amount of memory. Once this happens, on restart it always uses a lot of memory. If I let it complete its startup (which is slow since it thrashes the system), it will finally go back to a normal "~100M" amount. (It can grow to as much as 1.2G on startup).

Here is a line from top while it starts up:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
26934 francis 20 0 1343m 1.1g 12m R 100 56.5 0:33.38 konversation

I thought this might be related to too many log files, but moving away the logs directory didn't help.

This happened with both version 1.0.1-4ubuntu4 and 1.0.1-4ubuntu5.

This was also happening for kontact. It seems related to a corrupted addressbook. Two vcards had huge binary string in a bad X-Kpilot-RecordId fields. (The file was 254M, after clean-up it's 84k and everything works fine again.)

Changed in konversation:
status: New → Invalid
affects: konversation (Ubuntu) → kdepim (Ubuntu)
