Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?

This can be recreated on 8.04.1, but it seems to be an issue with the .msf files. If you simply delete the .msf files within your ~/.mozilla-thunderbird directory the files will be recreated and then the correct emails will begin showing up again. Apparently the profile is being corrupted somehow. HTH.

It's definately an Thunderbird indexing problem. I have the same problem occur regularly with Thunderbird on Windows (2.0.0.19). Seems to occur mostly (for me) with IMAP folders that are set to be available for offline use. Deleting the .msf files, or selecting Re-index from the folder properties fixes the issue, but is a real pain because the re-indexing removes all of the tags I use to categorize each email.

Having the same problem under windows (2.0.0.19 too). Using IMAP but not the "for offline use". Email count is around 2500. Re-indexing helps to solve the problem too but it always takes a while.

deleting the email helps only temporarily. you get the correct emails for a short time, and the problem comes back

I meant deleting the msf file

Yes. Since I first posted the solution of deleting the .msf file the same problem has occurred on the machine at least a dozen times. At this point my father has abandoned using thunderbird and now does all his email online. The computer is now using 9.04 and the issue is still persistent. It would be nice if there was a fix for this since others can reproduce this issue. Thanks.

Oh, all his accounts are POP accounts, not IMAP so it's not a protocol issue either.

I suffer from the same Thunderbird bug.
I've been unable to find the bug at: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/query.cgi?format=specific

Do anybody know the bug# for this error at Mozilla?
I'm about to give up using Thunderbird after being a happy TB user for a number of years...
