Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

With Firefox 3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu1, on a recent version of Hardy (daily from a couple of days ago, most updates applied since):

Import of bookmarks (and presumably any other files) fails silently when the selected file is on a network share.
To reproduce:
Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Import... -> From File -> Next
Select a remote location in the Open File dialog; the following appears in ~/.xsession-errors:
** (firefox:17006): WARNING **: Operation not supported by backend
Click Open - the dialog box closes as expected, but nothing happens.

Expected outcome: bookmarks are imported, or at least a message is provided indicating that Firefox can't open files from a network share.

NB: The share is of course not mounted, however it is accessible to Nautilus; going to Places -> <sharename> on <servername> works just fine. This is a Samba share, if it makes any difference.

I'm experiencing the same problem. Loaded Hardy last week on new laptop and trying to import bookmarks from "shared documents" folder on win2k box.
I'm a novice, so not sure what I can add here that may or may not help, but if someone is interested and can direct me I'd be happy to supply. I'm also using amd64.

is this still a problem with the latest ffox 3? If so, this is best dealt upstream as its not a ubuntu specific issue. first, verify that this is not caused by some extensions (disable all in tools -> addons and restart). Then please search in http://bugzilla.mozilla.org to ensure that your bug isn't filed; then open a bug in http://bugzilla.mozilla.org and post your bug id (or the one you found matching your issue) here. Thanks!
