Xubuntu the printing and default printer are too ease to mistake for each other

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xubuntu-desktop

The setting menu is very small so showing 2 identical images of printers with similar names is not good and could be confusing for new users.

It would be better if the default printer entry was dropped as you can set the default printer using the "Printing" app.

Or at the very least swap the positioning of the 2 so that the "Printing" app entry is more prominent than the "Default Printer" app.

I agree. We'll get this fixed (though you're welcome to send in a patch if you'd like)!

This was not fixed in Intrepid 8.10. Couldn't 'Printing' be renamed to 'Printer Config' or 'Add Printer' to avoid the confusion? Even if we keep the current menus in Jaunty, it would be nice to see this in Hardy, which is going to be around for a couple more years.

I'd go for "Printer Configuration", in that case - using verbs in application names is odd for normal applications.

This looks fixed in Xubuntu 9.10. I have Applications -> Settings -> Default Printer and I have Applications -> System -> Printing . Default Printer is self-explanatory, and Printing is used to set up the printer.

I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest stable version of Xubuntu, 9.10. It won't be fixed in previous versions of Xubuntu because the package doesn't fit the requirements for backporting. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports for more information.
