Totem Movieplayer opens at wrong time

Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

When downloading an mp3 from a podcast, clicking open on the Downloads box launches Totem movieplayer which in turn says it hasn't the right plug-in to play the file. No where that I've checked is Totem selected as the preferred player. There is a conflict that needs to be found as Rhythmbox freezes up. Is there any routine I can run to sniff this out?

Thank you for your bug report. What mimetype is listed in the properties dialog? What else player do you expect to be used instead?

Sebastian,
In the prop dia the type is mp3. Under preferred applications/multimedia
I've selected Audacity. Rhythmbox is very buggy. Sometimes Rhythmbox
launches when an mp3 is downloaded but most of the time Totem launches.
Most of Rhythmboxes podcast features never work.

I've discovered one thing. If I download a file that is actually at the
site I've selected, Audacity opens. If I download a file that isn't at
the site but is actually a link provided to another site, then Totem is
likely to launch.

I hope that helps. Somehow the hand-off blows something up.

This mainly happens when only one player is found to play the type of file. Can you please open firefox type about:plugins in the webaddresss bar and than click o file and print to file than please attach the file it printed to.
also please go into prefferneces and than on the content tab please look for the type of file and make it use what you want to use. This wont get fixed for firefox-2.0 due to it not being a SUR and its very close to EOS for ff2. can you please file a new bug if you find the same issue arises in firefox-3.0
Closing bug report.

If you don't want the totem player to kick in you can disable the
plugin in tools -> addons or remove the totem-mozilla package
completely from your system

I'm seeing this bug with hardy heron.

I'm trying to open .ram files with firefox 3 b5 and totem starts _always_, no matter what I do.

I went to edit -> preferences -> applications -> RealAudio Document and changed it to "Always ask".

Now firefox asks what to do when I click .ram file on web page. I select "open with" -> other -> "/opt/real/RealPlayer/realplay" and guess what.. totem starts up!

realplayer works fine from cmdline, using the same (downloaded) .ram file.

Clicking .ram file from the desktop (in gnome) opens up realplayer..

What's causing this in firefox? Why does it always run totem? Where to change it?

Uh oh.. now it works. Although I can't understand why..

I chose "open with" -> "other" -> "/usr/bin/realplay", and then it works..

"/usr/bin/realplay" is a symlink to "/opt/real/RealPlayer/realplay" so I cannot understand what's the difference..
