Bug Description

Hi,
I have a reproducible situation:

Enabling Intel SpeedStep Technology in ASUS P5N-SLI Motherboard BIOS and using a Microsoft Wired USB Optical Mouse causes the USB Mouse to stop working in Ubuntu 7.04 after about 2-3minutes.

Boot-up is fine, mouse is visible and can be used until, all of a sudden the mouse pointer and buttons do not work any longer. The red light on the mouse is still powered up.

After reboot same situation.

I keep my Ubuntu with all updates up to date.
If you need any further info - please let me know.

Thanks & Regards
Frank

Using a USB-to-PS2 adapter with this mouse and connecting the mouse to the PS2 port and same settings Speedstep works perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem with the mouse stopping to work after a variable amount of time from boot-up. The problem persists in Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. A workaround for this problem is to boot-up with "irqpoll" as kernel boot parameter (it works for me).

Cheers!

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?

BIOS update fixed the issue for me, I was trying to avoid doing that in case of complications but that might be the only good way to fix it

When I was using Ubuntu 8.04, the problem persisted, even if I have updated my BIOS. I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-529.

Hello, same problem here:

When I boot Ubuntu, keyboard and mouse works ok, but after say 5 minutes, mouse stops working. Sometimes unplugging and re-plugging the mouse make it work for another 5 minutes.

My motherboard don't have ps/2 inputs, so I use an USB to two ps/2 adapter to connect both keyboard and mouse in a single USB port.

Motherboard: ECS A785GM-M
Mouse: Pleomax SPM-710B

I've just upgraded this machine to Ubuntu 9.10. Mouse is still not working, and now the keyboard stops working after long period of inactivity. I have to unplug the ps/2 to usb adapter and re-plug to make the keyboard work again. But the mouse will not work.

recidive,

This is a bug report dealing with Intel Speedstep - when Speedstep in enabled the mouse fails, when Speedstep is disabled the mouse works. Since you have different hardware and haven't mentioned Speedstep, please open a new bug report for your issue.

Thanks.
