Bug Description

PC is a Dell OptiPlex Gx620, A01 BIOS, EM64T P4 3.00Ghz, 1GB DDR2, SATA WDC
WD800JD-75LSA0 hard drive, PATA Phillips DVD+/-RW DVD8701 DVD drive, 945G intel
chipset.

BIOS SATA setting of "Normal" reproduceable results:

Install is fine using either the Breezy Preview 5.10 i386 or AMD64 install CDs
until it reaches the [!!] Load installer components from CD screen. Screen says
"There was a problem reading data from the CD-ROM...Failed to copy file from
CD-ROM. Retry?". F3 console last line is "insmod
/lib/modules/2.6.12-8-amd64-generic/kernel/fs/isofs/isofs.ko". F4 console last 2
lines are "anna [10338]: DEBUG: resolver (wireless-tools-udeb): mark" and
"WARNING **: bad md5sum". Have run Check the CD-ROM integrity on both CDs - good
CDs. Have used these same CDs to install on other machines - no problem.

BIOS SATA setting of "Combination" reproduceable results:

Install is fine using either the Breezy Preview 5.10 i386 or AMD64 install CDs
until it reaches the [!!] Partition disks screen. The only options on this
screen to select is "Manually edit partition table" and <Go Back>. F3 console
last line is "Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...". F4
console last line is "SGI XFS Quota Management subsystem".

Sounds like the same issue as bug #20730

That was a typo; I meant bug #21223. Thanks for noticing.

It's also possible that this is a media problem; the disc may work in one drive
and not in another (this is quite common). Please do try burning a new disc at
a low speed

Reburned the same i386 iso with the same Verbatim CD-RW I was using but this
time I used Nero 6.6.0.16 on low speed (4X) instead of Roxio Easy CD Creator
5.3.5.17 on high speed (10X). This was done on a Dell OptiPlex Gx270 with an NEC
DVD+RW ND-100A drive. Same results as above.

I next ghosted the Gx620 in question with our XP SP2 ghost image. Using Nero
6.6.0.16 on low speed (4X) with the Philips DVD+RW DVD8701 drive, I burned the
same Breezy Preview i386 install iso to a NEW Verbatim CD-RW from the Gx620
itself. Same results as above.

I have also used a Memorex CD-RW during troubleshooting before I filed the bug
report. Same results as above.

What else can I provide you or what else do I try?!

FYI. I just downloaded and burned the 9/19/05 Breezy daily build of the netboot
mini.iso and Breezy successfully installed (except for a gnome-screensaver
dependency problem)! I also downloaded and attempted to install the 9/19/05
Breezy daily build i386 iso. Same failures as originally reported. Both isos
were downloaded and burned exactly the same way with the same CD-RW (HP), Nero
(at 4X) and PC (Dell Gx270) used.
