If some would like to offer to mentor/provide guidance, I would like to attempt to fix this package. I have already packaged version 2.14 for my own use and would like to contribute back to Ubuntu and the community. Thanks.

Hello, I think you should follow this to get 2.14 into Hardy: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess

You could maybe ask for some help/advises on #ubuntu-motu on freenode.

If you take a look at the debdiff you'll see that there is very little change to the source or packaging. Half the diff is taken up by changing all references to the version number.
