Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

When you cancel a file copy operation in nautilus, it leaves the uncompleted copy on the target.

1. Select a (large) file in nautilus.

2. Select 'Copy'.

3. Select 'Paste'.

4. While the copy is in progress, press the red cross at end of the progress bar to cancel the copy.

5. The copy will be cancelled but the file newly created remains, but it will only be a partial copy, eg 100 MB out of 500 MB. Otherwise, though, it will appear to the user that the copy completed.

This also happens if you copy a file to another folder or partition, or whether you are moving a file to another partition (ie during the copy phase of the move).

I would expect that the target file should be deleted since the copy failed to complete.

Version info:

Hardy 8.04 beta
nautilus 1:2.22.2-0ubuntu3

Is this bug a duplicate, then? It doesn't show up as such.

Is it being fixed? It can cause data loss, ie when the user sees it later, thinks it was copied and therefore deletes the original, so I think it's quite serious.

Actually, I think it's different - 67691 is "single file remains half-copied on error when copying within a file system" and 67692 is "original files are not deleted until an entire move operation is completed across two file systems", but this bug referred specifically to cancellation.

I'm pretty sure in earlier versions (edgy, feisty, gutsy) if the user *deliberately* cancelled a file copy/move, the target was deleted - it was only if an error occurred that a half-copied file remained.

So this "file remains half-copied upon cancellation of copy/move" is new to Hardy.
