nvidia-glx-new don't start

Bug Description

after update my system (hardy heron) the nvidia driver included in nvidia-glx-new don't start
The previous version worked fine.
I had to manually edit the xorg.conf to use the nv driver for report this bug...

versión nvidia-glx-new 169.12+2.6.24.12-16.34
video nvidia 8500gt

I also had a problem upgrading the driver to the restricted.

My resolution was not remembered and I got the error "out of range" so I had to revert

I get a black screen (no video output) using any of the restricted nvidia drivers.
Jaunty 9.04, linux-restricted-modules-2.6.28, nvidia 7950 GT

This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.
