Bug Description

Hi Canonical Team,

The local usb printer connection of my pc gets systematically lost under 8.04 (multi-function epson stylus dx5050) .
It worked fine under 7.10 and before. The sane/scanner tools are working too.

Process:
- cups recognizes the connection,
- installs the printer w. native dx4800 driver,
- after a few seconds, the printer message box will explain the printer connection 'may be' lost.

What I tried:
- Hardy is up-to-date, i386, generic kernel
- uninstalled - reinstalled several times cups
- had a look on udev rules, didn't find what to tune (some posts relating this)

Configuration:

Hi Pasacal,

Please find enclosed the sequential output of your printing debugging procedure, all in the same doc.
I ain't a coder, but saw on line 12133 something which could be the problem's source.

Thanks for your help,
Ralf

Does it work when you manually install the printer with the epson backend instead of the usb backend?

The printer's recognition / install phase always works fine. At every re-install, the procedure asks to confirm the selected driver: didn't anything else than using the native cups_shipped epson/dx4800 ppd file, w. 'easy' gutenberg interface.
Cheers!

Is this still an issue for you? Which Ubuntu version do you use? Thank you for telling us!
