failed to connect stream after ubuntu upgrade

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

after i upgraded my ubuntu from 7.10 to 8.04 with apt-get distupgrade,rhythmbox no longer works.
whenever i want to play music ,and no matter what i play ,there is always a note saying:
"failed to connect stream: Invalid argument"
i have installed gstreamer.
rhythmbox worked well in ubuntu 7.10

Try this: launch "gconf-editor"

browse to system - gstreamer - 0.10 - default
for every key here right click and choose "Unset key"

This should reset the GStreamer default element keys to the correct values for Hardy.

I am having the same problem. Totem and Rhythmbox stopped working after upgrading to 8.04. I get "Playback Error Failure to create stream: (null)". Tests under gstreamer-properties work fine.

I am having a similar problem as well. Totem and Rhythmbox does not work in 8.04. I get "Playback Error Failure to create stream: (null)" I did a clean install of 8.04 rather then upgrade.

Hi! I had the same problem after an update in 8.04 LTS too. I found that there is some problems when I ran Rhythmbox with the gstreamer-pulseaudio related packages. I had to remove these packages (including the ubuntu-desktop package) with Synaptic and the bug was fixed. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on a F700 Compaq AMD64x2 Laptop.
