Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

1. Ubuntu release: 8.10 - Hardy Heron Beta Release
2. Package: compiz 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu4
3. If I use a fullscreen game, when compiz is enabled, the screensaver start, when it reach the time limit, but I use the game (keyboard & mouse).

This is a test method.

1. Set the gnome-screensaver to 1 minute.
2. Install dosbox. - sudo apt-get install dosbox
3. Start dosbox in fullscreen mode. - dosbox -fullscreen
4. Wait one minute and use the keyboard and mouse.
5. When screensaver reach the time limit, dosbox goes back in windowed mode, start the screensaver, and dosbox switch back to fullscreen.

I'm not sure that is a compiz or gnome-screensaver bug, but only if compiz enabled.
This is a problem in every fullscreen mode application (games).

I can confirm this too. It looks like it's an instance of bug #157759.

Yep, I can confirm it as well.
It was already broken in 7.10 and I had big hopes that it would have been fixed by 8.04

I even experienced frequent X-Session crashing when the game and the screensaver would wrestle for control and switch back and fro between full-screen and windowed.

The workaround was disabling the screensaver... but well I am not too happy with that.

It is really annoying, especially for my spouse who will not disable compiz everytime before opening a fullscreen game :D

I can also confirm this. It also happens in other games like tremulous that screen will slowly fade durring gameplay and suddenly comback just after the screen save has started. (Probably because the windwo focus is now on the screensaver.)

As it is not yet triaged, it is not yet time to assign it to the packagers, someone from bug-control would first have to assess importance and if the bug report is complete.
