Bug Description

Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.24-15-generic-di

Using kernel 2.6.24-14 (and earlier) I was able to insert my HUAWEI E220 USB modem get a connection, disconnect, remove the modem, and at some later time reinsert the modem and get a connection without booting.

After upgrading to 2.6.24-15-generic this fails.

The first connection attempt succeeds, but you only get one chance. To reconnect you need to reboot.

Some differences I have noticed:

-14 has only /dev/ttyUSB0 and ttyUSB1
-15 has /deb/ttyUSB2 as well

-14 detects the E220 as a GSM modem:
Apr 10 07:35:43 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 202.503023] option 2-1:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
Apr 10 07:35:43 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 202.503132] usb 2-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
Apr 10 07:35:43 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 202.503141] option 2-1:1.1: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
Apr 10 07:35:43 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 202.503205] usb 2-1: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
Apr 10 07:35:43 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 202.503216] usbcore: registered new interface driver option

-15 detects the E220 as an AirPrime device:
Apr 9 18:19:44 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 71.714619] airprime 2-1:1.0: airprime converter detected
Apr 9 18:19:44 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 71.714789] usb 2-1: airprime converter now attached to ttyUSB0
Apr 9 18:19:44 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 71.714899] usb 2-1: airprime converter now attached to ttyUSB1
Apr 9 18:19:44 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 71.715005] usb 2-1: airprime converter now attached to ttyUSB2
Apr 9 18:19:48 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 74.812130] airprime ttyUSB0: airprime_open - failed submitting read urb 0 for port
0, error -2
Apr 9 18:19:48 henrik-laptop kernel: [ 74.812334] airprime ttyUSB0: airprime_open - failed submitting read urb 0 for port 0, error -2

Choosing kernel -14 at boot time allows me to use the modem.

This is probably a duplicate of bug #105545.

It's hard to see what is going on with these, mine works okay in both kernels. I have to wait a minute after plugging in - until this occurs in syslog:

Apr 11 06:08:09 celery kernel: [ 101.974694] usb 1-2: reset full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 2

If I connect before that has happened I lose connection when it does.

It is not a duplicate of bug #105545.

The latest updates to Hardy (or possibly the latest updates to hal-info with Daniel Hahlers patch) has fixed this.
