Bug Description

my laptop is a Dell inspiron 1420

the problem is as the title described: "laptop function key + brightness keys combo activates twice if pressed once."

It makes the screen too bright or too dark with just 1 key press.

i also have gutsy installed and it works fine.

gnome panel brightness applet works fine too.

very annoying little bug, specially when reading on screen.

thanks

I can reproduce this on my Inspiron 1420 with Intrepid. (I've seen this issue since Hardy at least.)

I'm making a wild guess at filing this against gnome-power-manager, but please refile elsewhere as appropriate.

I think this might be specific to Inspirons - I was able to find another dupe report about this bug, and the reporter also had an Inspiron 1420.

Fwiw, mine is a 1420N specifically.

Do your laptop brightness keys work fine if you boot with the video module blacklisted and then kill gnome-power-manager? If so, what you're describing is probably a duplicate of bug #257827.

I'm also experiencing several brightness level changes (like 5 out of 7) with g-p-m loaded in Intrepid, but only 2 if I kill it.

I have the same issue on Dell Inspirion 1525 + Intrepid.
In addition I have similar problem with volume up/down hot keys - sometimes it jumps over 2-3 or even 4 steps. Is this related somehow?
Everything worked fine on Hardy.

I have "Brightness Applet" on the top panel and when I click the applet icon (do nothing with the brightness slider) and then press Fn + Up/Down combo - usual brightness change indicator do not aper, BUT everything works fine in this case, i.e. brightness changes step-by-step without jumps!
