N/w card not configurable

Bug Description

Steps
-----------
1.)Installed windows xp in my PC and did not install motherboard drivers
2.)Installed Ubuntu 8.04 (just downloaded 2 days ago) and configured internet (i.e DNS,ip address-> for static).
I was able to connect to internet .Went to Network Tools and selected eth0 , the configure button was enabled
3.) Restarted the PC ,Grub loaded and in selected Windows XP .Installed all the motherboard driver (that includes n/w card driver also)
4.) Connect to internet from windows xp , it worked fine .
5.) Restarted my PC , Grub loaded selected Ubuntu 8.04 listed first . Now I cannot connect to internet
6.) Went to Network Tools and selected eth0 , the configure button was disabled .
7.)Did h/w testing and it said Intel Giga bit Ethernet card .

The above same steps was followed when i installed Mandriva Linux 2008 , internet works fine , with Ubuntu 7.10 my n/w card is not detected .

2 GB RAM
120 GB hard disk (Samsung)

Hi Everyone ,

I am S/w engg working as a Tech Specialist but new to Ubuntu /Linux environment , I just wanted to explore linux in my home .Help me solve the problem .
