Bug Description

Binary package hint: xfce4-mixer

Selecting a slider in the mixer and then pressing the Home or End keys does not result in expected behaviour. One doesn't respond and the other maximizes the slider and then minimizes it immediately. Xfce is set to use X keyboard configuration. xorg.conf settings:

Section "InputDevice"
 Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
 Driver "kbd"
 Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
 Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
 Option "XkbLayout" "us"
EndSection

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Can you try with latest Xubuntu release, Hardy Heron 8.04.1? I attempted to duplicate this, but the keys worked as expected, Home goes to the bottom and End goes to the top. Thanks in advance.

I tested it again on both updated Hardy Heron and Intrepid Alpha 2 + updates. The original symptoms with the listed keys are not reproducible but there is a problem with the up/down arrows. While moving the sliders either incrementally with arrow keypresses or continuously by hold them down, the slider button seems to backstep a bit, most noticeably while moving up incrementally. I can reproduce it on two different systems - a HP Pavilion Celeron 700 (Intel 82801AA) and a Gigabyte-based Phenom 9550 (ATI SB600/Realtek ALC888).

I changed the title to more accurately describe the issues with the keyboard.

Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.

I am able to confirm that the UP/DOWN arrow keys are difficult to use with the sliders. If pressed slowly, the slider stops moving and gently bounces in place. Repeated slow presses fail to move the slider at this time.

Rapidly presses arrow keys will move the slider, with backstepping/halting movements in some spots.

The stopping/backstepping does not happen in all positions of the slider, but about 3/4 from the bottom, on my system.

This is reproducable any time in Xubuntu Hardy Heron, 8.04.1. The original reportereproduced the issue in Intrepid Alpha.

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Jaunty Jackalope. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ .

My own testing in an installed version of jaunty shows this to have been fixed.

Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
