Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-2

Can't install plugins for Firefox 2 in hardy (using beta right now... but this bug might still be present in the final release if nothing is done)

Anyway i just installed ff2 and works like normal, except i can't install any plugin.

i even tried running it with sudo. Still can't install the plugins. Anyway, being "root" just to install plugins should be a NO NO.

Many people will need ff2 in hardy so it will be a problem, it's the stable release and it's the only one with the plugins This should be fixed before final release....

OK what exactly is the error you recieve? If its not erroring but completing you may have to move them to your firefox-2.0 profile as firefox-3.0 is default and all p lugins unless otherwise noted should default to 3.0. Please give a list of plugins and all the errors you get.

plugins download then i get this error (got it from the built in ff error console)

Error: installLocation has no properties
Source File: file:///usr/lib/firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js
Line: 7647

this is line 7647:

    var installLocation = this._em.getInstallLocation(id);

this happens with any plugin and any theme.

this doesn't happen in gutsy.

downgrading your profile from firefox 3 to firefox 2 is not supported. you can fix this by removing your extensions.* files in the firefox profile though.

It means this is not a bug, but something that isn't supposed to work in the first place.

Maybe the "fix" is to make users aware of this, since the obvious use case for installing FF2 will be to get certain extensions that don't work in FF3 to work, and people will expect them to work with the default state of FF2 unless told otherwise.

This is not a bug in the package but a bug in the way it was used.

way it was used? can you clarify it a bit more John

so it's impossible for a new package to install to a different path to fix this?

i heard fedora 9 comes with ff3 beta pre-installed also, maybe they have a fix for ff2 that can be implemented here.
