Bug Description

To redo bug:
- enter a site, using firefox, which contains php parameters in url (like: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1);
- drag and drop firefox url icon, or tab to desktop;
- try to open newly created Link; (double click, or right click > Open)

What happends:
- browser takes you to "http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php" page, instead of page with "?t=1"

Try right clicking on newly created Link, select "Link" tab - the url is stored properly.

A perfect description! This is a real nasty one for me.

I can also confirm it on 32-bit Ubuntu Desktop and both Firefox 3.0b5 and 2.0.0.14.

A perfect example URL: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=770556

Ubuntu 8.04 release.

Still broken as of the latest updates to 8.04 on June 11th. This is a serious bug for me as I have hundreds of links in some folders that are now broken after updating to Hardy.

I also have hundreds of broken links. It's particularly bad how all Ubuntu support forum thread links will not work. I also cannot believe there hasn't been more posted about it there.

As gnome-open $url works fine, I conclude that whatever it is that handles .desktop files at fault.

gnome-open test.desktop does not do anything, as there is no MIME handler for the type. Presumably, then, Nautilus is short-circuiting. So Nautilus is at fault, by my judgement.

Can someone attach a .desktop file exhibiting the problem?

URL looks fine in .desktop, problem's clearly with the launcher. I suspect a broken regex.

Here's an example file.
It's created by dragging the site icon in Firefox to the desktop.

Notice the horrible filename, which Gnome desktop doesn't display.
Gnome displays a field internal to the file.
If it fails to upload here I'll change the filename.

It should go to: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=770556
Instead, it goes to: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php

In case it helps, here is the SAME file renamed test.desktop
Place both in the same directory and Nautilus will display them identically.
Both launch in the same erroneous manner.
