Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager-core

Hello, I'm a new french user of Kubuntu. So that I don't know many things to do.

1. I've charged Kubuntu 7.10 from the CD live on the desktop then have installed it.
eth0 recognized, connected on the web.
2. I've used "Adept manager for updating the OS (clicking on thinks "installed" only)
Verification : everything updated is OK, but the menu "Quit" is green. Then I cllick on the right top x to close the application.
3. I open "Adept installer" to add KDE programs only, UNclicking "non pris en charge" and "logiciels propriétaires"
4. I choose different applications to download by clicking,
then "Apply" and get the message :
"Une erreur est survenue lors de l'application des changements. Il est possible qu'il y ait eu un problème lors du téléchargement de certains paquets, ou bien l'application des changements aurait cassé certains paquets"
5. I click on "Come again to select programs", and try again to install programs.
6. I get the same message.
7. I quit the application , and try to open again "Adept Manager" and the message is : "Another process is using the data base. Do you want to solve yourself the conflict ?"
Sorry I don't know what and how to do it ?. What do I do in that case ?
Thanks a lot for your help.

SOLVED BY MYSELF
I give the explanations to the other beginners :
I typed the following lines while I was connected to the web

""If you have a program that does not work, then type first like this :

     1. sudo apt-get remove [program_that_does_not_work]

""and type lines 2 to 5 (look under) to clean your system

**else begin directly at line 2 till 5

     2. sudo apt-get clean
     3. sudo apt-get update
     4. sudo dpkg --configure -a
     5 sudo apt-get upgrade

Nice !
NB : Caution : "gnome" programs do not work under KDE. Then avoid to download them. else the OS becomes unstable.
