Selected radio buttons and check-boxes appear blank

Bug Description

A snapshot is attached. That check-box for "This attachment is a patch" is selected. If I click away from that spot on the window, it will appear checked. However, you cannot figure out for example whether a check box is clicked or unclicked without clicking another area of the window that will unselect the check box. Feel free to ask if this is unclear.

I will try disabling extensions.

What I can tell you about my setup that is of interest:

KDE 3.5.9-0ubuntu6
xserver-xorg-video-intel-2:2.2.1-1ubuntu12
Compiz 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu4

If there is a question of combination of things causing the problem, that may be it.

I will try disabling extensions (I expect no change), and disabling desktop effects (could be, but there are really no other problems). I suppose I could try using xserver-xorg-video-i810, but there are reasons that I need intel instead (dual monitors being chief among them).

`firefox -safe-mode` also exhibits the problem.

Problem still exists with desktop effects set to none.

To reproduce, open Firefox 3.0b4 or b5. Find a web form with a check box or radio button. Click to check the box or select the radio button. "Selection" box will appear around the item (the one that moves if you tab between elements on the website), but the button/check box itself will appear as a blank box the color of the background in Firefox. Clicking on a neutral area of background in Firefox (thus unselecting the check box or radio button) will show that it is checked or selected, but is blanked out while selected.

The problem is that Hardy uses QtCurve as the default KDE theme. However Hardy does not use QtCurve's Gtk2 engine, preferring to style Gtk2 apps via the Qt engine. QtCurve doesn't look that great when done this way - certainly nowhere near as good as its native Gtk2 port.
