Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Look at the timeline near the top of the window.

I didn't expect to see white backgrounds to the buttons on the left and
right ends

See the screenshot above (or below, has more artifacts).

any steps to reproduce this? Those buttons look good to me, are you using compiz? which video driver do you have and also which card? to be confirmed by someone else.

The area where the arrows are on the left and right sides has a pure white background.

I am not using compiz, and I am using the nvidia driver with a GeForce 6600. I'll try with nv as well to test it.

not for me, are you still seeing this? Which version of Ubuntu and f-spot are you running? have you noticed this behavior with any other app?

I'm afraid I don't run Intrepid on the computer that has F-Spot installed. If you see no issue in Intrepid, feel free to close this.
