Bug Description

I have installed the beta, my home dirs for two different users have been migrated from feisty.

The sound does not work at all in Hardy out of the box.

In Preferences->Sound playback is set to auto detect. Testing the sound (Sound Event) gives:

audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument

The next one (music)

audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=music: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument

etc.

If I choose OSS as the sound system, sound works.

I have the same problem, using the stable Hardy (Ubuntu 8.04) release. Everything described in the bug is exactly the same for me. In addition I wanted to give the following information:
- The starting melody of Ubuntu works. Also in System->Administration->Hardware check the sound works (sound card recognized as Intel). At any other place it doesn't work
- My sound card is according to my manual a "High Definition Audio Codec AD1986A". My Computer is a Samsung Q35 Laptop.
