Bug Description

Binary package hint: gtk-qt-engine-kde4

Kubuntu-KDE4 8.04 beta
gtk-qt-engine-kde4
Firefox 3 Beta 4

When you click and/or drag the scrollbar in Firefox 3, the arrow buttons and scrollbar inset disappear. They also disappear if you use the scroll button on your mouse to scroll. In the case of the mouse's scroll button, the missing widgets will not reappear until you mouse over them.

I can confirm this on current Hardy. The firefox fix in System Settings doesn't help. I applied it a while ago and have rebooted multiple times since.

Epiphany has both the disappearing arrow buttons and the super-short scrollbar. Should I file a separate report for the small scrollbar issue?

I confirm it on Intrepid with kde 4.2.

Too bad I originally thought it was an fglrx rendering issue. Indeed it is not: you get it also with the radeon driver.

Furthermore, problems are not limited to the scrollbars. Minor glitches also appear with "tabs".

If you disable the oxygen style for gtk-qt and ask for the raileigh style for gtk apps things look uglier but at least correct.

Is it necessary to continue this bug? Jaunty no longer uses gtk-qt engine, but uses QtCurve instead.

While gtk-qt-engine is no longer the default theming solution, it still is available for installation for those who really want to use it. That being said we may want to fork the configuration dialog into a new piece of software and just discontinue the engine for Kubuntu 9.10 since it is unmaintained now.

Sadly, gtk-qt-engine is a quite broken piece of software and has been removed from distribution. (See bug 404930)
Unfortunately this means that the large number of bugs will not be seeing fixes. :(

For now, the best integration option for KDE is the QtCurve style, (gtk2-engines-qtcurve) which offers a theme quite similar to the default Oxygen theme. The configuration module for gtk-qt-engine has been salvaged and is now living in the kcm-gtk package, which will be available and installed by default in Kubuntu 9.10.

Thanks for understanding. This package tried its best, but in the end did not live up to the standards required by anybody who doesn't like looking at a broken Oxygen imitation.

For people who want their Qt and GTK applications to look exactly the same, there is also a kde-style-qtcurve package. You can get the latest versions of both in my PPA: https://edge.launchpad.net/~thefirstm/+archive/karmic-testing
