Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity-ubuntu-artwork

This is very similar to two of the bugs. I got the error "unable to install GRUB in hd0", and then

Installer crashed, with the same output as #94049 at the beginning. I'm typing the traceback in because I don't know how to scrape the error message from the screen. Should have a "send" box or at least a "save" box for these messages.

Traceback (most recent call last):
 File "/usr/bin/ubiquity", line 130, in?

   ret=wizard.run()
File "usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ubiquity/frontend/gtkui.py", line 266, in run self.process_step()
... same as #94049
up to
File "usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ubiquity/frontend/gtkui.py", line 538, in progress_l
  raise RuntimeError, ("Install failed with exit code %s; see"
RuntimeError:Install failed with exit code 1; see /var/log/installer/syslog and var/log/syslog

/var/log has nothing in syslog and there is no intstaller/syslog that I have found.

The specific version of ubuntu that I'm running is 6.06 LTS DVD for your PC in a book called "Moving to Ubuntu Linux by Marcel Gagne.

I don't mind trying to upgrade to a newer version, but I need some base to do that from. I'm writing this from my Windows machine.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. Could test the current Ubuntu version? It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect 211679.

If the version you now have won't install, there is no upgrade possible. Perhaps you could download the latest version from http://releases.ubuntu.com/releases/10.04/ and install it? The desktop image allows you to try before installing.
