Bug Description

Hardy beta (last updated 3 April)
Brasero-0.7.1-3ubuntu1

I cannot copy a DVD to file image. Steps done:
1.) Put DVD to the drive. (It is automounted, and OK in Nautilus)
2.) Open Brasero.
3.) Click on Disc copy.
4.) Under 'Select a drive to write to' choose File image.
At this point the 'Properties' button and the 'Copy' button gets grayed out, and nothing is showed besides the icon (where the name of the image file is supposed to be), see the attached screenshot. When I tried with a CD, it seemed to work, at least I could click on 'Properties', change the image file, click on 'Copy', and the actual copying started (I cancelled it manually, but seemed to work flawlessly until that point).

The problem is not related to css encoded DVDs, it is present with my unencrypted data discs as well.

I tried DVD -R, +R, +RW without success.

Did a fresh install of the final 8.04 release, and just realised that it seems to work well now. I note that this time I have used xfs file system instead of ext3, but I think it was not the reason, I suspect a config file messed up during the numerous updates of the beta.

I get exactly the same as Roland on two separate PCs, one running 32-bit and one running 64-bit Hardy. I initially installed 8.04 RC and upgraded to 8.04 from there.

Version information:

Ubuntu 8.04, kernel 2.6.24-17-generic
brasero 0.7.1-3ubuntu1

I have the same problem, except that I do have the option of creating an image, but not to copy to a CD (see attached screenshot).

I have tried a complete uninstall of Brasero, followed by a fresh install, with no occurrence of change.

I am running a fresh and fully up-to-date install of Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit.

Having the same problem here. Fresh clean install on a Dell Inspiron 1525 of Hardy (8.04). Very annoying.

May someone experiencing the issue can forward this upstream? for filing instructions please have a look to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME ; leaving this as incomplete until that, thanks for your help.

After finding http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=538978 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/238497, I'd say these are the same bug.

So what's the policy on choosing which bug to mark as the duplicate? eg is the original the earlier one, or the one with more info, or one first linked to an upstream bug report?

Rocko, it's ok to mark this as dup of bug 238497 since it have an upstream task already set up. thanks.
