Bug Description

Binary package hint: systemsettings-kde4

I'm using Ubuntu Hardy Heron Beta 1, KDE 4 edition.
I cannot see any way to configure what my monitor is. Since I can't configure what type of monitor it is I'm stuck at using the limited range of resolutions given for generic monitors. 1024 x 768 is the highest I can go, though my monitor supports 1280x1024 @60 Hz.

It doesn't let me configure what type of monitor I have, unless I'm mistaken. Unless I set it to Compaq 7500 in displayconfig the highest resolution I could set my monitor to with randr is 1024x768. Since displayconfig is dead I think this is an even more important bug. (Yes, X is supposed to correctly autodetect it but if it doesn't you're basically screwed unless you can configure your monitor.

No, you're right. I misunderstood what you wrote in the bug. The really needs to be upstreamed to KDE.

Can change resolution, but can't change the monitor model/modes, driver, etc.

What happens if you run xrandr --output VGA --mode 1280x960 (where VGA is your output type)?

No feedback :(

Also this probably needs addressing upstream anyway, so please refer there for updates on this bug.

Kscreen adds some more settings.
X should auto configure the rest.
