Bug Description

Hey all,

I'm trying to use the mail applet with a mail pop server.
However it is stating that i have 18 unread email and it's showing my 18th and after emails.

I have no unread emails and my first 18 emails are been ignored.

OK, so you make two points here:

1. Your read emails are showing up as unread
2. The applet only shows the last 20 emails

Correct?

1. This is because POP has no concept of read/unread emails. The best I can do is change the text to "x messages" instead of "x unread messages". I'm also implementing the IMAP protocol, which does not have this problem.

2. This is by design, and is the reason this is marked won't fix. If too many emails are displayed, the Mail Applet window goes off of the screen. I can make the maximum number of messages displayed configurable (and will in the next version) but I can't make it unlimited as that A. looks horrid B. Makes it difficult for those with small screens.

Also, I'd like to ask a question: Are the only emails being displayed the latest ones? I was unable to verify this myself, but could you check? (That is, if its displaying 20 mail messages, are they the most recent 20?)

Thank you. If I misinterpreted something you said (or am just plain wrong :)), leave a comment here.

Hey pavpanchekha,

I think it would be better to change the text to "X Messages" as it makes more sense since you can't get the unread emails.

The strange thing is that it's not getting the neither the first or last 20 emails.

I have 183 emails in this mail server and it's getting the 18th (most recent mail) and listing 18 emails older than it.
The first 20 are ignored for some reason.

This is very strange.

My bad,
"The first 20 are ignored for some reason."
I meant it's ignoring the first 17.

oh and it's listing only 17 emails, not even 20.

avdzm, do you still have this issue? It seems like pavpancheckha did something about it or it changed for some other reason. I emailed me 42 mails and it always shows the newest 20. 20 is the limit to not make the dialog too large.

There has been a change in the POP protocol implementation in rev. 1409 about 3 months ago (2010-09-20). Before that, the applet connected only once to the POP server and then repeatedly got the message list instead of doing it the right way and connecting every time, getting the message list and quitting then. This caused some other trouble (errors while getting message list) and probably caused this bug although I couldn't reproduce it before.

For this reason I believe the bug is fixed but since we get no response and it's unlikely the fix will ever be verified I'll mark it as invalid/missing information.

Please reopen it (change the status to "New") if you still experience this bug.
